A magnificent Victorian diamond star brooch, dating to circa 1880 and set in the classic combination of silver and 15ct gold. Designed as a twelve-pointed star, the piece is set throughout with old mine cut diamonds — an estimated 2.2 carats in total, G–I colour and VS–SI clarity — with a larger central stone of approximately 0.6 carats (H/I, SI2) that anchors the composition with real presence. The old mine cut diamonds, with their characteristic high crowns and small tables, have a warmth and depth of scintillation that modern cuts cannot replicate. The brooch fitting is removable, allowing the piece to be worn equally as a pendant — a versatility that was much prized in the Victorian era.
