A fine and characterful Victorian bangle in 15ct gold, c.1880, formed with a square-profile body crossing over at the top with gold ball terminals, and set to the centre with seven alternating rubies and diamonds — four rubies and three old-cut diamonds totalling an estimated 0.28 carats of diamonds and 0.15 carats of rubies. The seven-stone horseshoe is a specifically lucky configuration: the horseshoe itself has been a symbol of good fortune in British culture since at least the medieval period, and the tradition of setting it with seven stones — one for each nail hole — amplifies that symbolism. The alternating ruby-and-diamond pattern, with its contrast of warm red and cool white, is a classic Victorian combination. The bangle is hinged with a secure box-and-button release clasp.
