Victorian Mourning Snake Necklace
A Victorian plaited hair necklace. This fine example of Victorian mourning jewellery is formed of woven hair, terminated with the head and tail of a snake. Iconically Victorian, mourning Jewellery was used as a form of private worship or mourning for a loved one. The symbolism of the snake represents; love, wisdom and eternity. The 18ct gold snake is set with emerald eyes.
This necklace may also be worn as a bracelet, wrapped a couple of times around the wrist.
