A fine 1970s charm in 18ct yellow gold, formed as a bell in deep blue lapis lazuli set with four diamonds. Lapis lazuli — the vivid ultramarine stone prized since antiquity and used by Renaissance painters to produce the pigment ultramarine — enjoyed a significant revival in the jewellery of the 1970s, its intense, saturated blue and characteristic gold pyrite inclusions making it a natural complement to the yellow gold settings of the decade. The bell form is a classic charm motif, and the addition of four diamonds gives this example a refinement that elevates it above the purely decorative. Wearable on a charm bracelet or on a chain as a pendant. Hallmarked 750 (18ct gold). 1.6 × 1.4cm; weight 2.2g.
