A fine and characterful pair of vintage clip earrings in gold, c.1960–1970, each centred on a button-shaped coral bead encased in a rope twist crossover motif set with three round brilliant-cut diamonds. The rope twist is one of the most enduring motifs in gold jewellery, and here it is used to particularly good effect — the warm red of the coral playing beautifully against the yellow gold and the bright points of the diamonds. At 2.5 × 4cm and 18.5g these are earrings of real presence and weight. Fitted with integral sprung clip fittings; posts can be added upon request. Main body tests as 14ct gold; clips hallmarked 18K.
