An 18ct yellow gold ring by Ben Rosenfeld Limited, London hallmarked c.1970, centred on a large domed malachite cabochon of 2.4cm diameter set within an organic gold mount with brilliant-cut diamond accents totalling an estimated 0.20 carats. The domed cabochon format allows the full surface of the malachite to be presented to the eye — and malachite rewards that presentation: its vivid, saturated green with the characteristic concentric banding of lighter and darker tones, each stone unique in its pattern, gives it a visual complexity that no faceted stone can replicate. The organic form of the gold mount, with its flowing, asymmetric lines, is entirely characteristic of the bold, nature-inspired jewellery design of the early 1970s.
Ben Rosenfeld Limited was a London jewellery maker active in the mid-to-late 20th century, their maker's mark BR LD appearing on a range of well-made, design-led pieces of the period. London hallmarked 18ct yellow gold; maker's mark BR LD (Ben Rosenfeld Limited).
Ring size L½ (UK); diameter 2.4cm.
