A fine and beautifully composed pair of drop earrings in 18ct yellow gold, c.1990, combining amethysts, Akoya pearls, and diamonds in a design of warm, layered elegance. The Akoya pearls measure 12–12.5mm — an exceptional size, indicative of the finest quality cultured pearls — and are complemented by amethysts of an estimated 1.16 carats and brilliant-cut diamonds of 0.40 carats, graded G/H and VS. The combination of the pearl's warm lustre with the cool violet of the amethyst is an unusual and striking one, given additional brilliance by the diamond accents. At 3.3cm in length these have a graceful, confident drop. An equally compelling choice for a bride or for any occasion that calls for something out of the ordinary.
