A rare and intriguing Edwardian stickpin in 18ct gold, c.1900, modelled as an anvil set centrally with an old European cut diamond of an estimated 0.07 carats. The anvil is an unusual and highly specific subject for a stickpin — a symbol of the blacksmith's craft and, by extension, of industry, strength, and skilled labour. It also carries associations with Freemasonry, where the anvil appears in lodge symbolism as an emblem of honest work and craftsmanship, and a stickpin of this kind may well have been worn as a fraternal token. The faded signature to the piece suggests a maker's mark that has not yet been fully identified, adding a further layer of provenance interest. Tests as 18ct gold. Head 1.5 × 0.7cm.
