A striking pair of vintage earrings from the 1970s, featuring large cabochon amethysts of deep, rich purple set in 18ct gold rub-over settings and encircled by a halo of brilliant-cut diamonds totalling an estimated 1 carat. The combination of the velvety, uncut surface of the cabochon amethyst against the sparkle of the surrounding diamonds creates a wonderful contrast — bold and glamorous, yet refined in execution.
The two-tone gold setting — white gold for the diamond surround, yellow gold for the rub-over — adds further depth to the design. At 12.8g and 2.2cm across, these are substantial earrings with real presence. Fitted with clip fittings to accommodate unpierced ears; posts can be added on request.
