A superb Art Deco jabot brooch in platinum, c.1920, combining carved coral and onyx with old-cut diamonds in a composition that is quintessentially of its period. The head of the jabot is inlaid with alternating sections of carved coral and onyx — the bold contrast of warm red and deep black a hallmark of Art Deco design — with a diamond set to the centre. The underside of the head is set with twenty-two old-cut diamonds in platinum, and the stem is further embellished with six old-cut diamonds, giving the piece brilliance from every angle. A jabot brooch is designed to be worn through a lapel or cravat, with the decorative head visible above and the diamond-set underside catching the light below — a form that rewards the wearer as much as the observer.
