A fine and exceptionally elegant mid-20th century diamond brooch of French origin, dating to circa 1950–60. Designed with the fluid, linear confidence of the period, the brooch is set along its length with a central spine of graduating baguette cut diamonds, flanked by brilliant cut diamonds that provide a scintillating contrast of facet styles — the stepped geometry of the baguettes playing beautifully against the fire of the rounds. An estimated 5.5 carats of diamonds in total, G/H colour and VS–SI clarity, all set in 18ct white gold. Fitted with a pin and trombone closing mechanism to the reverse. French assay marks and a rubbed maker's mark.
A genuinely beautiful piece of mid-century French jewellery — the scale, the quality of the stones, and the elegance of the design make this a brooch that would hold its own in any collection.
