A glistening antique diamond star pendant, dating to circa 1880 and made in the classic Victorian combination of silver set over 18ct gold. Designed as a twelve-pointed star, the pendant is set with thirty-seven old cut diamonds — an estimated 1.5 carats in total, H–K colour and VS–SI clarity — with the largest stone at the centre and the remaining diamonds radiating outward through the points. The old cut diamonds, with their characteristic softly domed crowns and open culets, have a warmth and candlelit glow that modern brilliant cuts cannot replicate. Presented on a modern 18ct white gold chain, 20 inches with a 2-inch spacer.
A timeless and romantic piece of Victorian jewellery — the star motif was one of the most beloved of the period, and a thirty-seven stone example of this quality and completeness is a genuinely fine find.
