The Asscher cut — a square step-cut with deeply cropped corners, developed by the Royal Asscher Diamond Company in Amsterdam in 1902 — is one of the most architecturally distinctive of all diamond cuts. Its concentric square facets create a hall-of-mirrors effect within the stone, drawing the eye deep into the diamond rather than reflecting light outward in the manner of a brilliant cut. It is the defining stone of the Art Deco period, and its geometry is the natural starting point for a ring of this design.
The 0.55-carat Asscher-cut diamond sits at the centre of a target composition: a ring of calibré-cut yellow sapphires — stones individually cut to fit precisely within their allocated space, a technique that requires considerable skill and produces a seamless, uninterrupted band of colour — enclosed by an outer ring of brilliant-cut diamonds. The contrast between the cool, geometric Asscher centre, the warm yellow of the sapphire ring, and the sparkle of the brilliant outer halo gives the ring a visual complexity that rewards close attention. Diamond accents on the shoulders lead to a triple wire shank.
