A beautifully crafted three-dimensional feather brooch in 18ct gold, c.1940. The central spine of the feather is set with a line of old mine cut diamonds totalling an estimated 0.80 carats, with a characteristic twist towards the tip that gives the piece a wonderfully naturalistic sense of movement. The outer barbs of the feather are formed from delicately curved gold wire, creating a light, airy structure that is remarkably true to life. Old mine cut diamonds, with their deep culets and warm, candlelit brilliance, are particularly well suited to a piece of this period and character. Tests as 18ct gold.
