A very special Victorian brooch depicting St, Hubert. The brooch, probably European and circa 1880 is made from 18ct yellow gold and is a terrific example of this kind of gold work from the period. It depicts a stag set within a hunting horn.
St. Hubert was renowned as the first Bishop of Liège and is deeply associated with hunting. A tale passed down through generations weaves his encounter with a divine stag on Good Friday, a moment that transformed him and defined his spiritual journey. His dedication to spirituality and the transformation from avid hunter to devoted bishop caused him to become the patron saint of hunters.
