A commanding Victorian brooch in 18ct yellow gold, formed as a large coiled serpent with piercingly vivid ruby eyes. The snake was among the most potent and beloved motifs in Victorian jewellery — a symbol of eternity, wisdom, and undying love, famously worn by Queen Victoria herself. This example is particularly rare: it is believed to have been converted from a Victorian belt buckle, making it a genuinely unusual piece with two lives behind it. The scale is impressive — nearly 6cm across — and the richly worked gold surface has the depth and warmth of age. Wearable as a brooch or scarf pin, and certain to draw admiration.
