A fine and substantial antique bangle in silver on 18ct gold, hallmarked Sweden 1896, set with old-cut diamonds totalling an estimated 1.2 carats in a central cluster surrounded by a pear-shaped motif. Swedish goldsmithing of the late 19th century was of consistently high quality, and this bangle is a strong example of the tradition — the crisp original hallmarks confirming both the date and the metal standard with unusual precision. The silver-on-gold construction is characteristic of the period, when silver was the preferred setting metal for diamonds before platinum became widely available, the cool tone of the silver enhancing the brilliance of the old-cut stones. The figure-8 safety clasp is a period-correct and practical detail. Internal diameter 6 × 5cm; in excellent condition.
